Gibson is Lake County's youngest museum -- open noon to 4 pm Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
In January 2017, Gibson Museum joined the Lake County Museums system, along with the Historic Courthouse Museum in Lakeport and the Historic Schoolhouse Museum in Lower Lake. Gibson first opened May 3, 2014.
The Gibson Museum & Cultural Center is located in the small building that from May 1930 until early April 2013 was the Middletown Library. A corps of volunteers initiated the movement to create a museum dedicated the heritage the southern portion of Lake County, California. Support for the many talented and creative residents — past, present and future — of this area was likewise a part of the vision.

Portions of the Neuman Fence, a longstanding landmark in Middletown, was returned to its hometown by the Lake County Historical Society. The fence had been donated by heirs of its craftsman Ed Neuman, and was at the Society's Ely State Stop & Country Museum in Kelseyville. Two winsome ore cars, donated by Calpine Corp., are poised to replicate their duties several score years ago at Socrates Mine.
