CANNON, W. G.
From "History of Napa and Lake Counties" 1881
Is a native of Illinois and was born December 12, 1831. Here he resided on a farm with his parents until 1852 when he crossed the plains to California. He came with ox-teams and arrived at Placerville in September of the above year. After spending about four months here he went to Solano County where three years were spent. after which he went to Sonoma County. Here he followed teaming in the redwoods until 1863 when he went to Nevada where he kept hotel for one year. In December 1865, he came to Lake County and engaged in farming and stock raising in Coyote Valley until the fall of 1870, when he settled on his present place, about one mile north from Middletown, where he is engaged in farming and stock raising. Mr. Cannon married, March 17, 1861, Miss L. S. Berry, a native of Illinois. By this marriage they have seven living children, Robert B., William F., Luenna, Alzada E., Baxter B., Oroville, and Charles R. They have lost two, Ora and Rowena L.

Mr Cannon, whom Lamira married later, joined the Purvine wagon train of 1852 while it was still still east of the Rocky Mountains, and with two other young men finished the journey with then. Children of Lamira Berry and William Cannon are:
Robert Berry6 Cannon, born June 25, 1862 in Sonoma County California; died 1932 in Middletown, California. He married Minnie Ozenberger June 24, 1902 in Middletown, California.
Notes for Robert Berry Cannon: Mrs Minnie Cannon began teaching school at the age of seventeen years and taught in the Middletown grammar school for thirty-three years when she retired on pension. married by Rev Mr. Carwford, Middletown, June 24, 1902 She celebrated her ninety-third birthday April 30 1961 There was on children Floyd William Cannon, born September 30, 1864.

LAMIRA S. CANNON OF MIDDLETOWN CALLED TO REST
Mrs. Lamira Samantha Cannon, another pioneer of early California history, passed away at her home in Middletown on Monday at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 25 days.
Mrs. Cannon was born in the state of Illinois on February 17, 1840, and with her parents, Baxter and Elizabeth Berry crossed the plains in 1852 in an ox-drawn immigrant train, locating in Sonoma county near Sebastopol. Here she was united in marriage to William Grayson Cannon on March 17, 1861. To this union were born ten children, Robert B., Floyd, Baxter, Mrs. Luemma Kemp, Mrs. Eva McIntire, Orville, Ora, Charles, [Roena] and Ralph, four of whom have passed on, Baxter, Luemma Kemp, Ora and Roena [sic]. Her husband passed away in 1904.
The Cannon family moved to Lake county in the fall of 1865, settling in Coyote Valley on what is known as the Cheney ranch. After five years, they moved to their old homestead about a mile north of Middletown, and in 1904 they moved to their present home in Middletown.
Mrs. Cannon was one of the principal factors in organizing a church in this part of Lake county. On November 16, 1867, with her sister, Mrs. Lutiha [sic] Young, and several other residents of Coyote Valley, met at what was then called the old Stone house, now the home on the Young ranch, and organized the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. This organization was moved to Middletown in 1871, where it has combined to function until the present time. It more [sic] a part of the Federated and Community church.
Mrs. Cannon was a Christian all her life and was a regular attendent [sic] in all religious activities.
Funeral services were conducted from the Community Church this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, the Reverand [sic] George Whiteman officiating and Reverand [sic] Donald Latimer . . .

May have gone back to Illinois briefly. The 1860 census shows a William G. Cannon, age 27, born in Illinois, working as a carpenter in St. Mary's Township, Hancock County, Illinois.
